AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the nation's largest volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service. And we want you to join us.
The Tax Aide program now involves more than 35,000 volunteers and serves 2.6 million taxpayers annually at more than 5,000 sites nationwide. In fact, we're one of the most effective volunteer programs in America.
But even though we've grown a lot, we're still all about the grassroots. You'll be helping people in your own community with a much-needed service that's free, individualized and has no strings attached. Almost four out of five people who turn to AARP Foundation Tax-Aide are 60 or older. Household incomes aren't high. For many of them, a tax refund might mean they won't have to choose between paying for groceries and keeping the lights on.
If you are good with numbers, think about volunteering to be a tax preparer. You'll work with taxpayers directly; filling out tax returns and helping them seek a refund. Experience isn't necessary - we'll train you on the latest tax preparation forms and software
You can sign up to volunteer on the AARP Foundation website at www.aarp.org/aarp-foundation

Mission Statement

AARP Foundation serves vulnerable people 50+ by creating and advancing effective solutions that help them secure the essentials.

Description

Working with local groups, government and national organizations, and corporations, the Foundation creates and supports solutions that help older people meet life's essentials: food, housing, income and personal connection. Our volunteers serve in a wide variety of ways. In addition to tutoring in our acclaimed Experience Corps program and helping low- to moderate-income people file their taxes through our Tax-Aide program, trained volunteers place calls to older homeowners at risk of foreclosure, and students in our Mentor Up program help low-income older adults stay connected to their community by keeping them up to speed on technology and social media - and just by spending time with them.
