DOROT offers three intergenerational programs for youth of varying ages to connect with older adults. Interacting with older adults enables youth to develop communication skills, positive attitudes toward aging, and a sense of purpose and community.

Book Buds
Wednesdays, September 21 - December 14
4:00-5:30pm
A reading adventure for 2 nd & 3 rd grade students and older adults that nurtures childrens’ love of reading through a variety of fun and creative activities.
Shir Simcha
Tuesdays, September 13 - December 13
4:00-5:00pm
An intergenerational chorus for 3 rd - 7 th graders and older adults that offers a creative experience for learning and singing a variety of Hebrew, English and Yiddish songs. No singing experience or Hebrew necessary!
Intergenerational Chess
Mondays, September 26 - December 19
4:00-5:30pm
Students in 6 th - 12 th grades and older adults play chess together, share their love of the game and help build intergenerational connections across the chess board.

DOROT alleviates social isolation among older adults and provides services to help them live independently as valued members of the community. We serve the Jewish and wider community, bringing the generations together in a mutually beneficial partnership of elders, volunteers and professionals. Our work provides an effective model for others. DOROT is headquartered in Manhattan with an additional site in Westchester County.
