Do you have a passion for creativity, reuse, and resourcefulness? If so, you would love volunteering at SCRAP PDX. We are a non profit organization on a mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community. As volunteer, you will help us sort, package and display creative materials such as fabric, buttons, arts and craft supplies, jewelry, beads, office supplies, books, magazines, scrap booking materials, and so much more! As a thank you to our volunteers, we offer a 20% discount for each day of service provided.
Most volunteers start by attending one of our monthly orientation sessions: a 45-minute informational meeting about the ins and outs of volunteering at SCRAP. That session is followed by two supervised volunteering shifts, scheduled individually with staff, before you'd be able to schedule your own independent volunteering shifts. This is the option to go with if you've checked out our website, and you're pretty confident that you'd like to volunteer on a somewhat regular basis for a while. If that's the case, please submit our short, online application to be notified of upcoming orientations.

On the other hand, if you'd like to give volunteering a try right away to decide if it's something you'd like to do more regularly later on, drop in anytime on a Thursday between 11am and 4pm. Those are designated hours when people who haven't participated in an orientation or been trained can still volunteer. Just wear closed-toed shoes, and if you can stay for even just an hour, you'll be set up with a volunteer task. We'll try to find something for you to work on that matches your interests, in order to help you decide whether this is a place you might like to volunteer independently.
