You are invited to volunteer at Pickering Creek Audubon Center’s annual open house, Harvest Hoedown, on Sunday, October 9. This event runs from 11:00am until 4:00pm. Attendance at the Harvest Hoedown in past years has been approximately 1,500-2,500 individuals. There will be live music, food, interesting exhibits, a marketplace and craftsmen’s demonstrations and other special activities. There will also be Pickering-specific nature-based activities including several exhibits, a scavenger hunt along our Farm to Bay trail and a 'nature shorts’ program series.
Volunteers do a variety of activities including
- directing cars in parking area
- greeting visitors as guides along our Farm to Bay trail.
- assisting at special activity tables
- directing visitors on wagon rides
- assisting visitors at wagon loading/unloading areas
There will be two volunteer work and training days for in preparation for Harvest Hoedown. All volunteers who sign up to assist at Hoedown are asked to attend at least one of these events.
Public Lands Day Saturday, September 24 from 9:30 to 1pm.
We will be mulching and tidying the trails and public areas at Pickering Creek Audubon Center in preparation for our visitors on Harvest Hoedown until 12 noon. Hoedown volunteers are asked to stay for a short training over a brown bag picnic.
Hoedown Set up Day, Thursday October 6 from 3-6pm
Help put out the pumpkins and tie the corn stalk decorations and set up for Harvest Hoedown from 3-5pm then stay for a short Hoedown volunteer training starting at 5pm.
