Make a meaningful difference by donating one lunch hour per week to help the students at Plainfield Elementary School improve their reading skills!
Lunch Buddies is HandsOn Suburban Chicago's (HOSC) in-school tutoring program designed to strengthen the acdemic and social skills of elementary school kids. At Plainfield, tutors will have lunch and read with students in grade 3 to facilitate their literacy development. Each volunteer will work with one or two students and under the supervision of program staff and volunteer leaders.
Knowledge of Spanish is highly desirable but not required. Applicants must be willing to undergo a background check.
Where and When: Lunch Buddies will begin in mid-January and go through mid-May 2016.
Volunteer tutors are needed on:
- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:10 pm to 1:00 pm at Plainfield Elementary School (1850 Plainfield Drive, Des Plaines, IL 60018)
Choose and commit to one day or more per week. Orientation/training is TBD in January.
Tutoring is a fun and rewarding experience. Volunteers have consistently reported that working with students has boosted their self-confidence and given them an incredible sense of satisfaction in knowing their contributions have positively impacted the academic growth of their tutees.
