Lunch Buddies Tutoring at Plainfield Elementary School

Who: HandsOn Suburban Chicago (HOSC) needs YOU to inspire a love of reading in low-income students.

What: Lunch Buddies is an in-school tutoring program designed to promote favorable attitudes toward books. The program additionally strengthens the fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary skills of elementary school kids. Under the supervision of program staff and/or volunteer leaders, volunteers will enjoy lunch and work with small groups of first and second graders.

Where and When: Lunch Buddies will begin in late September and go through May. Volunteer tutors are needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:10-1:00 PM at Plainfield Elementary School (1850 Plainfield Dr., Des Plaines, IL 60018). Choose and commit to one day or more per week for the school year. Applicants must be willing to undergo a background check. Mandatory orientation/training will take place in September and again in January.

Why: Tutoring is a fun and rewarding experience. In addition to the satisfaction that comes with positively impacting those in need, volunteering in schools is an ideal way to meet new people, enhance your resume, and/or learn new skills.
