CHiL Mentor at Holmes Middle School

Who: HandsOn Suburban Chicago (HOSC) needs caring and reliable community members like you to help high-needs students get on track to graduate! HOSC's afterschool program CHiL will likely take place both in person and online in fall 2021. Virtual volunteers must be 18 or older, exhibit excellent computer literacy skills, and have reliable access to both broadband internet and a computer with a camera to be able to participate. Proficiency in Google products is required.

A mandatory orientation and training session will take place in September. Volunteers must be willing to undergo a background check.

What: CHiL is a volunteer-based afterschool program that provides social and emotional support coupled with homework help to low-income middle school students in Wheeling Township's Community Consolidated School District 21. Under the direction of program staff, volunteer mentors will foster socialization among a small group of students; facilitate social and emotional learning activities; and guide their charges in completing schoolwork.

Where and When: CHiL will take place online and at Holmes Middle School in Wheeling, IL. The program will begin in late September and go through March. Volunteer mentors are needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:15 pm. Choose and commit to one day each week.

Why: Mentoring is a fun and rewarding experience. In addition to the satisfaction that comes with positively impacting those in need, volunteering in schools is an ideal way to meet new people, enhance your resume, and learn new skills. Mentoring at CHiL is also a great way for college and graduate students to gain field hours.
