CHiL (Afterschool) Tutor at Holmes Middle School
Who: HandsOn Suburban Chicago (HOSC) needs YOU to help disadvantaged students get on track to graduate!
What: CHiL (Cooper, Holmes, and London) is a volunteer-based afterschool program that provides homework help to at-risk middle school students. In addition to academic support, CHiL at Holmes Middle School in Wheeling offers students social-emotional learning activities. Under the direction of program staff, volunteers will work with small groups of students, guiding them through their assignments and facilitating reflective discussions on assigned topics.
Where and When: CHiL will begin in mid-September and go though late March.Volunteer tutors are needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:15 pm at Holmes Middle School (221 S. Wolf Rd., Wheeling, IL 60090). Choose and commit to one day or more each week. No specialized knowledge is necessary; a mandatory orientation/training will take place in September for the fall and then again in January for the spring. Volunteers must be willing to undergo a background check.
Why: Tutoring is a fun and rewarding experience. In addition to the satisfaction that comes with positively impacting those in need, volunteering in schools is an ideal way to meet new people, enhance your resume, and learn new skills. Completing community service may also help youth volunteers qualify for scholarships.
