ORGANIZATION: VANTAGE Aging RSVP

The STRIVE Mentoring program is specifically tailored for youth, ages 10-17, involved with the Wayne County Juvenile Court. Mentors will help youth identify a set of skills, experiences, relationships, and behaviors that enable them to develop into successful and contributing adults.

  • With support of the Program Coordinator, mentors will work with youth on improving social competencies, commitment to learning, positive values, positive identity, boundaries and expectations, constructive use of time and empowerment.
  • In order to be effective, we ask mentors to make a one year commitment with youth, with a minimum of two in-person contacts per month, for a total of four hours per month.
  • Participate in activities that youth are interested in and document time spent together. Mentors are asked to maintain contact with program coordinator and participate in ongoing trainings.
We ask that mentors form supportive relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries. Volunteers should have strong oral, written and interpersonal skills. We ask that volunteers maintain appropriate car insurance as set to program minimum requirements. Ability to travel easily; may require minimal lifting and standing. Background check required (paid for by Catholic Charities).
