The 5th Avenue Boutique provides a unique shopping experience with high-quality, gently used women's clothing, shoes, and accessories. All proceeds from sales in the 5th Avenue Boutique support YWCA programs, including Clothing Services' Working Wardrobe and Dress for Success.
The volunteer will assist with operations of the 5th Avenue Boutique by preparing clothing for sale by steaming, tagging, and stocking items as well as greeting and assisting customers as needed.
Responsibilities include:
- Able to volunteer 1-3 hours a week between regular work hours, with a minimum 3 month time commitment
- Hang, steam, tag, and stock boutique merchandise ready for sale
- Provide customer service support, including occasionally using cash register to ring up sales
- Distribute unsold boutique merchandise to appropriate Clothing Services programs to ensure fresh clothing stock in all departments
- Keep store clean and organized
- Assess and sort new clothing donations
- Assist with photo shoots or other projects as needed
- Occasionally accept clothing donations from donors
- Occasionally assist with special events such as pop-up sales
Qualifications:
- Experience working with people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Strong interest in fashion and knowledge of clothing brands desired
- Previous retail or fashion industry experience a plus
- A strong commitment to social justice issues
