Verdugo Hospice Care Center needs committed, caring, compassionate volunteers who are able to drive to Fontana, CA to spend some time with a Hospice (End-of-Life) Patient. Hospice is a specialized program in which the terminally ill receive care and support from an Interdisciplinary Team comprised of a Physician, Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Medical Social Worker, Spiritual Counselor, and Certified Home Health/Hospice Aid. Volunteers are also members of this highly-trained team who provide much-needed companionship, socialization, emotional support, and caregiver relief to the family members. Volunteers are considered employees, although unpaid, who give of their time, energy, talent, and heart to help the terminally ill and their families. All of our Hospice Volunteers receive complete orientation and training in order to provide patient care support. Volunteers need to possess a current driver's license with car insurance, and will need to have a background check (requiring a Social Security Number), a physical exam, a TB test, a drug screen, three references, and be able to come into our office in Los Angeles (Eagle Rock area) for the initial orientation. There is a 30-hour training for all volunteers to complete.
