ORGANIZATION: Compassus Hospice and Pallative Care

  • 40 people are interested

If you are compassionate, caring, and have a calling to help others, becoming a hospice volunteer is the perfect opportunity for you.

Hospice Volunteers touch the lives of patients and their families every day. The simple act of sitting with a patient or making a trip to the grocery store can brighten the day of those we serve.

Our volunteers give their time, talent and hearts generously and unselfishly - yet commonly feel that they receive more than they give. Volunteers may choose the area in which they prefer to function and the hours they are willing to donate.

We serve the Atlanta metro area so there is an opportunity close to your home or work address.

Volunteer opportunities include:

Patient Support
Volunteers provide companionship to the patient and respite for the caregiver

Bereavement

Bereavement volunteers are an invaluable resource for those who have lost loved ones, especially for family members without a solid support network.

Administrative
Administrative volunteers assist hospice staff, typically in the office.
Veteran-to-Veteran Volunteers
Compassus is proud to participate in the We Honor Veterans program. Many of our locations provide trained veteran volunteers who offer camaraderie and compassionate care for fellow veterans. Our veteran-to-veteran volunteers understand the unique needs of veterans because they ARE veterans .
ANGEL Volunteers (Allegiance of Neighbors Giving End-of-Life Support)
ANGEL Volunteers are trained, non-medical volunteers who offer emotional support to the patient and caregiver in the last hours of life. Angel volunteers are a compassionate presence during the last hours of life for hospice patients with only one or no primary caregiver.

Description

At Compassus, we share a culture established around three core values: Compassion, Integrity and Excellence.

Hospice offers peace and comfort to patients and their families by reducing the stress, pain and other symptoms of a serious illness. Hospice is not just for the final days of life. it's about helping patients and their families live as well as they can when life expectancy is limited.

Palliative care helps people with a serious illness feel better - physically, emotionally and spiritually. It focuses on improving quality of life at any stage of illness. Patients can continue curative treatments, and some patients with chronic diseases may move in and out of palliative care as the need arises.

Patients receive treatment in facilities and in their community homes.
