Esperanza - DVCC
In response to the need for broader and more culturally-appropriate outreach within the Spanish-speaking communities in Fairfield County, DVCC launched EsperanzaCT, Connecticut’s first Spanish language website and 24-hour service line for victims of domestic abuse. The comprehensive online service center and round-the-clock phone line provide Spanish-speaking victims with immediate access to information and assistance in their native language.

Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) is committed to promoting the fundamental right of all individuals to be safe in their personal relationships. The EparanzaCT program is an arm of the DVCC that serves the Latino population in the Fairfield County area. We serve six towns in CT: Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, New Canaan, Westport & Wilton.

There is an immediate need for volunteers who speak Spanish. We have opportunities in In-take (Health centers & ER), Hotline, Medical Advocacy Program, Sustainability program (ESL classes, computer instruction, financial planning, Tax help etc.)

Please note training is required and DVCC will provide the training at no cost to you but we need a 3-6 month commitment towards the opportunity.

"DVCC is committed to promoting the fundamental right of all individuals to be safe in their personal relationships" The DVCC is the only domestic violence agency serving the cities and towns of Stamford, Norwalk, Westport, New Canaan, Darien, Wilton and Weston and is part of an 18 member statewide coalition, the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV).

Description

The staff at the Domestic Violence Crisis Center are nearly 60 individuals with years of experience and expertise in the field of domestic violence; we are counselors, educators and attorneys; we advocate for you in the court system and medical community; we offer SafeHouses where victims and their children can be safe while making more permanent plans; we partner with an organization that can find temporary foster care for your pet while you are in the SafeHouse. Our PeaceWorks Prevention Education Project provides prevention programming in schools throughout our communities to educate young people about healthy relationships. PeaceWorks’ age and grade-appropriate programs cover a multitude of topics from conflict resolution to bullying to understanding the dynamics of dating violence. Our Training Advocacy Project offers trainings and workshops on domestic violence throughout the adult community. Many of us speak Spanish, and we also can help if you speak another language or live with disabilities. With EsperanzaCT we provide a Spanish language website ( www.esperanzact.org) and 24-hour phone service line answered by Spanish speaking counselors.
