ORGANIZATION: Boulder Valley ICO

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Boulder Valley ICO is an all-volunteer program of the Sierra Club that takes children from low-income families on free nature outings. We enrich the lives of these children and help build a new and more diverse generation of environmental stewards. It’s also about as much fun as one can have while doing good for the community!

We’re currently welcoming new volunteers into our program, and we will have a two-day training retreat for new volunteers on November 12th & 13th at the Cal-Wood lodge, in Jamestown, Colorado (about 50 minutes from Boulder).

But don't wait until the training to get involved with Boulder Valley ICO -- we will reimburse the $40 registration fee for those who help us lead an outing or two between now and April, 30, 2017.

For more information and registration details, please see our website: www.boulderico.org.

Mission Statement

Boulder Valley Inner City Outings aims to enrich the lives of our participants and to instill in these children wonder and respect for nature and wilderness. We are a non-political entity, focused on sharing our love of the outdoors with children who would not have these experiences any other way.

Description

Boulder Valley Inner City Outings is an outreach program of the Sierra Club that takes children from low-income families in Boulder County on free nature outings and wilderness adventures. Our outings include everthing from snowshoeing to multi-day backpacking.

We do not preach environmentalism to participants. Instead, we take children to amazing places at let nature to the talking.

We also run a free youth leadership for program participants that teaches the basics of outdoor leadership, advanced outdoor skills, some earth and life science, critical thinking skills, and the basics of environmental stewardship.

We also run a water sampling and fly fishing program in partnership with the City of Boulder, Boulder Flycasters, and Water Sentinels (the Sierra Club's national water sampling and stewardship program).
