Music therapy it is the clinical and evidence-based use of music intervention by a board-certified music therapist. It assesses the strengths and needs of the patient and designs a plan of treatment that includes creating, singing, moving to and/or listening to live, patient-preferred music within individual, group and/or family sessions.

Because music is non-threatening, enjoyable and enhances brain function, people of diverse ages, backgrounds and abilities can gain therapeutic benefits through music therapy. We need musician volunteers that can offer music therapy that can bind with other healing efforts to address the physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of Opuscare of South Florida patients. While not appropriate for every hospice patient, music therapy can be surprisingly effective with an otherwise unresponsive patient.

Music therapy provides the most benefit to patients who:
  • Enjoy music to enhance their quality of life or maintain dignity
  • Lack social interaction or sensory stimulation
  • Look for a concrete way to cope or to define or articulate feelings or thoughts
  • Experience pain and symptoms that are difficult to control through traditional medical interventions
  • Feel anxious or are affected by dementia
  • Face communication problems due to physical impairments
  • Need spiritual support.

We provide a customized individual program where "Dignity Care" is our number one priority.

Description

We are a non-for-profit organization providing excellent end of life care throughout the Miami Dade and San Antonio Texas since 1991. Our Mission is to provide quality of life care services and bring choices to the patients we serve. Our comprehensive caring approach is unique, providing a specific plan of care that meets the particular family’s spiritual and emotional needs.
We provide pain management and appropriate palliative care when curative medical treatments no longer enhance quality of life. During periods of crisis, we provide additional services to allow the patient to remain at home. OCSF provides medical management to alleviate symptoms related to the primary illness. Each patient receives the medical equipment and supplies necessary to enhance overall comfort and safety (hospital Beds, Bedside Commode, Over bed table, Oxygen, Dressing Supplies). Medicare and Medicaid cover 100% of OCSF services under an all-inclusive rate with no out of pocket costs to the patient or family. Any service not related to the primary illness will be covered by your regular Medicare/Medicaid.
