704 OPEN STREETS OCTOBER 23

Location: The roads connecting Biddleville, Smallwood, Seversville, Wesley Heights, 4th Ward, 3rd Ward Wilmore, and South End.

Date: Sunday October 23, 2016

Volunteer shifts: 11am - 5:30pm

Brief Description: Open Street Events bring together community groups and local businesses to temporarily close streets to car traffic and open them up for people to walk, bike, and engage in Family Friendly activities. These events are more than a street festival, they give residents an opportunity to explore their neighborhood and local businesses in a safe, fun, and family-friendly way. Volunteers will help with set up, take down, surveys, crowd control and clean up.

Volunteer Opportunities

1. Intersection Superhero! These volunteers will be in charge of welcoming participants to the event, answering questions, offering directions and keeping an eye on adjacent driveways and parking deck entrances. In the event that a car exits onto the route, Intersection Superheroes will help direct cars to proceed slowly and safely to the nearest route exit and/or CMPD officer. Please bring a folding chair, water, sunscreen, and an umbrella (if the weather looks threatening). You will be provided with a route map and a brief training to help guide participants. Volunteers will need to be on site at 11am to be trained, get their location assignment and their Tee Shirts.

2. Surveys: We need Volunteers to assist with surveys and attendance counts. We will place groups of three people each along the route. We need Volunteers who can stand on their feet the duration of the event, who are friendly and engaging and love talking to people. Volunteers will need to be on site at 11am to be trained, get their location assignment, and receive their materials and their Tee Shirts.

3. Information Stations: We’ll need one volunteer to work at each of the tents located in our 4 activity zones. Duties at the tent will include helping with B-cycle rentals and bike valet service, passing out information and selling our Awesome Open Streets 704 gear. Our 4 zones are Family, Wellness, Green, Art/Science; we’ll have approximately 3 tents in each Zone. Volunteers will need to be on site at 11am to be trained, get their location assignment, and receive their materials and their Tee Shirts.

4. Zone Captains: We will have 4 zones; Family, Wellness, Green, and Art/Science. We need two Volunteers in each zone to help set up and take down activities, give out water, answer questions and to roam the route in their zone. We want Volunteers who are uplifting and friendly. We’re asking these Volunteers to help engage people in the activities. These Volunteers must be able to stand on their feet and walk the Zone. Volunteers will need to be on site at 11am to be trained, get their location assignment, and receive their materials and their Tee Shirts.
