A Hospice Companion Volunteer is someone who is a listener, supporter and kindhearted friend to patients as they visit them in their homes, in the hospital, or in a nursing home. On these visits, he/she will read, play games, serve prepared meals, and help the patient’s family by making their loved one safe and comfortable while they receive a short respite. The volunteer will fill out reports on patient visits. Most visits are for 2 hours, once a week when a volunteer is assigned a patient. Volunteers receive an activity guide and appropriate report sheets to describe each visit. The volunteer will also be required to fill out a monthly time report. Required training will be provided.

Mission Statement

Homecare & Hospice has offered a variety of care services for over 40 years. The mission of Homecare & Hospice is to provide support in all necessary aspects of a person’s life including medical, psychosocial and spiritual, all while in the comfort of the patients and clients’ homes.

Description

Hospice services aim to increase the quality of life for patients who are facing terminal or life-limiting illnesses, as well as to offer necessary medical, psychosocial and spiritual support. Our Hospice program is Medicare-certified and specializes in end of life care to reach the counties of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Genesee and Wyoming. The Homecare program similarly strives to allow patients to remain in their own homes while receiving support for their short-term needs or chronic conditions. Some instances include clients who need support after surgery, recovery from an illness, the frail elderly, developmentally disabled and those who are living with a long-term disability or illness.
