¡Adelante Latina! is seeking once-a-week tutors for promising 10th-12th Latinas attending Baltimore City public high schools for the 2019-20 school year. The program's main objective is to prepare the students for college and to help them with the college and scholarship application process. The focus is on improving vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing skills as well as helping them with SAT preparation.
The program meets on Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons from early September through late May, with a 5-week break from mid-December to late January. Tutors would ideally make a commitment to their student for the duration of the 3-year program. Occasionally, tutors are needed on weekends for cultural outings and other excursions.
Meetings take place at the Archbishop Borders School in East Baltimore for the fall semester and the Esperanza Center located at 430 South Broadway in Fells Point in the spring semester, from 4:15-6:15 p.m. NO SPANISH KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY, just a love of the English language, reading and writing. And patience and a love of working with teenagers.
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
