¡Adelante Latina! is seeking once-a-week tutors for promising bi-lingual 10th-12th Latinas attending Baltimore City public high schools for the 2022-23 school year. The program's main objective is to bolster their English skills to make them stronger students and better prepared for the rigors of college.
WE ARE CURRENTLY RECRUITING VOLUNTEER TUTORS FOR THURSDAYS 4:00-6:15 PM.
The focus is on improving vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing skills as well as helping them with SAT preparation.
The program meets on Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons from early September through late May, with a 5-week break from mid-December to late January. Students meet with their tutors one of the days, and meet as a class with one of our English teachers on the other day. Ideally, volunteer tutors make a commitment to their student for the duration of the 3-year program. Occasionally, tutors are needed on weekends for cultural outings and other excursions.
NO SPANISH KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY, just a love of the English language, reading and writing. And patience and a love of working with teenagers.
