About

Sprouts Chef-in-training Program is a vocational program that provides In-need, Bay Area youth a chance to turn their lives by training to become real chefs.

We are seeking a part-time volunteer to work with our current Chef-in-training team and general director to mentor at-risk youth as they go through their 6-month Chef-in-training internship. As a Chef-in-training ambassador, you will work with chefs, non-profits, and coordinate interviews and social media to tell the individual stories of each Chef in training candidates. You'll never be bored, and will have the opportunity to learn from, develop friendship with and work alongside a group of passionate, dynamic women at our communal office space in downtown Oakland!

Sample projects include:

Interviewing Chef-in-training candidates
Meeting with partner non-profits
Reaching out to funds and like-minded nonprofits
Helping our event planner organize fundraisers and events
Giving presentations on Sprouts Chef-in-training program
Help write a grant
Meet with popular chefs and trendy restaruants to find intern placements

Your work will help at-risk youth turn their lives around by as they train to become chefs.This position has lots of room to grow, and there`s a strong chance of being hired on afterwards!

Chef-in-Training Program Overview
After partnering with Jamie Oliver and his team in 2012, Sprouts founded the Chef-in-Training Internship Program in the San Francisco Bay-Area. The Chef-in-training internship was directly modeled after his London-based Apprenticeship Program, Fifteen. Sprouts offers youth in need of a jump start the culinary vocational training needed to secure stable jobs in the food industry. This internship targets disadvantaged Oakland youth between the ages of 16 - 23, providing them with a paid opportunity to gain real-time, real-life culinary job training. Interns work two, 8-hour shifts every week, and their training is both reinforced and monitored with weekly check-ins led by a Sprouts` advisor and their mentor chef so that each intern reaches his or her fullest potential. Not only do they work directly with their Sprouts`chef mentor throughout the entire internship, but the Sprouts team and chef mentors also facilitate the interns` job placement post-graduation.

This position runs 20-32 hours a week.

Compensation
This position is volunteer. We do offer a transportation stipend!
This position can potentially lead to a paid position afterwards
