Position Overview:

The Governance Committee Board Member will join our team as a board member who would lead the governance of the board. A successful candidate would contribute to the board’s effectiveness and continuing development with ongoing reviews and recommendations to enhance the quality and future viability of the board of directors. The position would be best suited to an individual who possesses a progressive interest in boards, while keeping up-to-date with global issues and current events, preferably pertinent to peacebuilding. The Governance Committee Board Member will report to the Executive Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:

  • Attends board meetings that take place approximately 5 to 6 times a year
  • Leads in assessing current and anticipated needs related to board composition
  • Identifies potential board members and candidates through personal connections and other board members’ networks
  • Periodic assessment of the board’s performance and proposes changes as appropriate
  • Regularly reviews board members participation and continuing interest
  • Oversees the board to assist current and future board members

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 to 4 years of experience on boards, including but not limited to non-profit organizations
  • Seasoned, disciplined, and proven credibility
  • Highly organized with a professional demeanour
  • Maintains an impartial and appropriate perspective at all times
  • Demonstrated standards of confidentiality and ethics
  • Natural ability to listen to and understand a multitude of board members and stakeholders
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and written
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office, Skype, and Google Drive
  • Knowledgeable of current issues and events locally and globally
