Volunteer in Kenyan slums and Rural Kenya with GMCV

GMV provides an opportunity to volunteer in grass roots projects in Kenyan slums rural Kenya.

As a volunteer, you will experience the urban slum life and traditional Kenyan life and participate in daily activities such as visiting orphanages, elderly villagers, collecting water from a well, teaching children in and outside classrooms, feeding animals as well as health outreach programs.

The community development projects, including arts, knitting beadwork, pig and poultry house construction and repairs, home repairs, health/HIV/AIDS workshops, youth and women education and empowerment, animal rearing, water and sanitation (including well and waterway construction) and project planning and management or other skills that can help us transform this communities.

With our volunteer program, you discover the wonders of Africa, while doing meaningful and rewarding community work. This is a great opportunity to explore life in both urban slum and rural Kenya, live and work amongst the locals and realize one person can make a difference

Extra activities you will not miss: Village Safari Walks, Boat Riding, Nairobi national museum safari and photo shots, visiting Nairobi national park for safaris, animal orphanage and more tourist attractions, cultural heritage villages, ancient caves, exotic African birds, legendary Tomson falls, enjoy the natural pollution-free wonderland of beautiful hills and a day trip to Mt. Longonot.

Program Dates: Volunteer program runs throughout the year.

Program Duration: Volunteers can choose to volunteer for a period of 2- 8 or more weeks

Program Fees

Placement booking fee: USD$90 paid in 2 weeks time upon acceptance into the program, our program is pretty popular, so try to book as soon as possible. After the Volunteer Coordinator has accepted you into the project, then you will have to pay a non-refundable booking fee.

* 1 week- USD$120
* 2 weeks-USD$200
* 3 weeks- USD$450
* 4 weeks - USD$500


The program fees can be paid upon arrival or before departure from your home country for proper preparations of your placement.

Program fees covers:

* Pre-service (e.g. culture, health talk, program orientation, training etc)
* Accommodation, Laundry and food during placement with a host family or volunteer house (3 meals a day
* Regular ground support

The program fee excludes the following:

* Airfare, Visa and Visa extension fee
* Transportation during weekends travel
* Gifts to project staff ,and if you wish to buy any;
* Pre and post placement period costs
* Travel, medical insurances, immunization, and other health expenses
* Internet access, telephone, drinks or other costs accrued during training and placement
* Personal travel and sightseeing (trekking, jungle safari etc)

Time and Schedule:

Program Length: From 2 to 24 weeks

Program Date: Flexible Start & End Date

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 hour per day

Accommodations: GMV

Meals: 3 meals a day

Age: 18 years or older, Minors MUST be accompanied by elders

Description

Organization Description The Great Mission Village is a children charity,for children with children. Meaning it supports by children. The Great Mission Village was founded in 2011 with one girl in the Sunday school I was leading who at the age of 9yrs had never been to school. At the moment the The Great mission Village is a home of 36 children between the age of 6 yrs and 17. Which 25 of them are girls and 11 boys. The charity also supports eleven(11) children who don't live at the home. The children include; former street boys and girls,the orphaned and the less fortunate in the society. The kids are also great environmentalist. For once every month since October 2013they have a date to go to the streets of Kangemi and the neighborhood for a mass cleanups.
OUR PROJECTS
KANGEMI CLEANUP PROJECT. The Kangemi Environment Project is a 5years pilot project initiative of the Great Mission Kids to make sure that the environment they live in is clean and managed proper to enhance the better living of the people of Kangemi slum.
