Mercer Island is graced with 35 parks, over 300 acres of natural areas, and more than 50 miles of trails. Popular among joggers, walkers, and families, Mercerdale Park provides an urban open space experience for residents of all ages. However, this natural area has become over-run with non-native ivy, laurel and holly which threaten its ecological diversity. Volunteers play a crucial to the restoration of this local forest by returning over the next few years to remove invasive plants, plant native conifers, and support the growth of these young trees. Volunteers will help this effort by planting trees and shrubs at a new restoration site in the park.

Help make this human and natural heritage visible and accessible to all people.
Description
The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, founded in 1991, is a non-profit partnership of citizens, private landowners, businesses, public agencies, environmental organizations, and local governments working to protect and enhance the scenic I-90. The Trust supports efforts to preserve open space, farms, working forests, and historic sites, and to create new trails, recreation and tourism opportunities along the 100-mile Mountains to Sound Greenway. Trust volunteers work year-round on a variety of outdoor projects to improve the environmental health of and recreational access to the Greenway.
