Volunteers are a vital part of our Prisma Health Tuomey Hospice team, giving their time and emotional support to our patients, their families, and the hospice staff. Our offices serves Sumter, Lee and Clarendon counties.
Our volunteers enjoy serving others with a compassionate attitude and a reassuring smile. Our active volunteers consist of full-time and part-time employed individuals, students, homemakers and retirees.
Volunteer opportunities are varied but:
- Direct patient care - Opportunities include patient assignments in the home, assisted living facilities and nursing facilities. Volunteers provide non-medical assistance to the patient and family. This could include providing relief care for the primary caregiver, companionship and emotional support. Volunteers may also run errands and provide transportation.
- Administration - Clerical opportunities exist in various departments of Prisma Health Tuomey Hospice. Non-direct patient opportunites also exist such as building handicap ramps, lawn care, house maintenance, home cleaning or walking a pet.
- Bereavement - Memorial services are held to honor and rememberance of those we have loved and lost. Volunteers assist our Chaplain with particulars pertaining to the Memorial Service.

Description
Prisma Health Tuomey Hospice is looking for volunteers who are willing to provide companionship to those facing a terminal illness. Hospice volunteers serve in non-medical roles, but are an important part of the hospice team who give their time and emotional support to patients, families and staff. They work in a variety of locations including patient homes, hospitals and nursing facilities. We are currently looking for individuals to serve in Sumter who are interested in sitting with patients to offer companionship, emotional support and caregiver respite.
