ORGANIZATION: SAPHICHAY INC

It is a program that addresses the loss of connection to the knowledge and application of traditional agricultural practices and diversity of native seeds and crops as well as foods, food systems and diet by teaching the importance of growing your own food through school gardens.

Saphichay needs artistic volunteers who have experience or interest in urban gardening, farming, permacultures, soil science, ecology, botany, the environment, linguistics, or anything similar. The volunteers will help build the school gardens, teach the children how to treat the plants and crops that they will be growing and do any research if needed. The goal is to have these lessons be taught in Quechua, the native language in the Andes, so they will be responsible for participating in and then helping with the Quechua lessons. They will also be responsible for creating a manual, for children, on how to build the gardens in Quechua, and Spanish as well as blog posts. This means that the volunteers must be at an intermediate level of Spanish upon arrival.
