Roland's Youth Trainers adore him!

GET INVOLVED: If you're intersted in fostering a pup while he or she attends our program, we would love to hear from you! Please fill our our Volunteer Application at: http://www.livingunchained.org/volunteer.htm

UnChained pairs homeless dogs with at-risk youth: the youth learn positive communication and teamwork through teaching the dogs good manners, social skills and basic commands! This training increases the dogs' chances of finding a forever home--dogs with basic skills are 50% more likely to be adopted--while it strengthens the youth's capacity for compassion, responsibility, creativity and bonding. Everyone wins!

We're launching a new program at Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall in San Jose, and we need FOSTERS!

FOSTER ROLE: Our fosters provide an amazing service by feeding, loving and snuggling for pups during the two months they attend our classes. Many of our fosters also learn our positive reinforcement training techniques so they can continue to work with pups on ther skills outside of class! Dogs will attend classes two days per week, and UnChained chauffeurs will transport pups to and from their foster homes and Juvenile Hall. UnChained partners with a local rescue group to find pups, so fosters will be approved and supported by the rescue group along the way!

TIME COMMITMENT: Fosters commit to providing love and shelter for pups from the start of our program until they are adopted. Our program is 8 weeks long, and we have a high adoption rate for graduated pups (most are adopted within 30 days of graduation!). So, for most fosters this is a 12 week committment. Fosters do not need to attend classes at Juvenile Hall, although they may be invited to attend the end-of-program graudation event.

Mission Statement

UnChained fosters empathy and respect in at-risk youth through animal advocacy. Our vision is a community where people are capable, inspired and committed to respect, care for and protect all sentient beings, whether they are humans, or animals. Our vision is a community where people teach their peers how to be kind to themselves and to one another. Our vision is a community where the small, young, old, disabled, furry, and feathered are never intentionally harmed by the hands of another human being. Our vision is a community where people are not motivated by money or politics, but motivated by compasssion and empathy to protect and care for those who are unable to protect and care for themselves.

Description

UnChained uses the Canines Teaching Compassion program, an Animal Assisted Therapy (ATT) program, to help to change the lives of kids and save the lives of dogs by matching at-risk youth and shelter dogs together! The youth learn positive communication and interaction with one another through teaching the dogs good manners, social skills and basic commands This training increases the dogs' chances of becoming adopted, while it teaches the youth impulsivity-control, mastery of a skill, future orientation and the value of restorative justice.
