The National Kidney Foundation’s 28th Annual Authors Event is the largest literary event of its kind in the Bay Area. Featuring a luncheon and a dinner, the event brings together those who are passionate about literature and saving lives through kidney disease research, advocacy, and education.

Volunteer Opportunities include:

GREETERS
Welcome guests to event from various locations in the hotel; direct and lead guests from registration table to book-signing area and luncheon ballroom. (8-10 volunteers in the AM)

AUTHORS LINE MONITORS

Ensure smooth lines and preparedness of people waiting to have their books signed by the authors. (Each author has a volunteer line monitor: 6 volunteers needed in the AM; 6 volunteers needed in the PM)

2016 Authors include: Naomi Duguid; Michael Krasny; Mike Massimino; Jerry Rice; Amy Krouse Rosenthal; Calvin Trillin

BOOK SALES & SIGNING AREA MONITORS
Assist our bookseller Book Passage in monitoring sales. Help guests locate books. Direct customers to sales registers. Make sure all patrons have paid for their books before having them signed by authors. (6 volunteers in Book Sales Area and 4 volunteers verifying payment of books, in both AM & PM. 10 volunteers)

DINING ROOM SET-UP
Place NKF materials on each table ensuring that tables are orderly and presentable. Place orchid centerpieces and donation envelopes at each table. Volunteers will also assist with monitoring doors prior to the Luncheon. (10 volunteers needed in the AM)

PATRON GIFT BAG ASSEMBLY & DISTRIBUTION
Assemble gift bags for our high level patrons. Ensure that bags are placed at correct sponsor tables and chairs according to seating chart and place cards. (3-4 volunteers in the AM)


REGISTRATION
Check-in attendees, inform guests of their table number, and distribute fund-the-need paddles by name. Please be willing to work in a fast-paced area with up to 1,200 guests checking in. (20-24 volunteers in the AM)

MISSION MOMENT SPOTTERS, PADDLE COLLECTORS
Assist in collecting donor paddles in ballroom during Fund-the-Need portion of Luncheon. (12 volunteers needed)

MISSION MOMENT PROCESSING & CHECK-OUT
Process Fund-the-Need financial donations and contributions. Please be willing to work in a fast-paced area post-Luncheon. (8-10 volunteers in the PM)

DINING ROOM CLEAN-UP
Collect extra orchids, orchid payment envelopes, and bid paddles from the dining room. (10 volunteers in the PM)

There are three shifts available

Morning through afternoon (8:30AM-4:00PM)

The morning shift (8:30AM-11:45AM)

The afternoon shift (2:00PM-4:00PM)
