Mission Statement
Our mission is to ensure that all youth, regardless of backgrounds or economic position, can benefit from the positive aspects of being a young athlete. The game of basketball instills positive messaging and characteristics in participants through emphasizing such concepts as setting and achieving goals, teamwork, determination, leadership, dealing positively with diversity and much more. It creates a positive atmosphere with strong role models that allow youths an alternative to violence, gangs and other negative and self-destructive activities. Most importantly, the game helps develop skills in participants that allow them to go to college on scholarship. This creates opportunities that otherwise would not be available to them.
Description
Louisiana HoopFest is a 2016 initiative to give youths and young adults from all backgrounds the ability to develop essential life skills through a fun sporting event. Youth will have to set a goal, work with a team, strategize and compete against an opponent to get a spot in our championship on October 23rd.
The tournament will benefit youth mentorship organizations and Education ONE, a community initiative that brings together educational institutions and businesses from across New Orleans to create a culture of education.
