Children in a classroom at Circle of Peace School in Makindye, Uganda.

Looking to invest your time and talents in a way that makes a lasting impact? By providing your expertise in fundraising to Circle of Peace International (COPI), you can ensure that orphans and low-income students in Africa get the key to a better life: a quality education.

COPI is the outgrowth of one woman’s determination to provide a better life for children in her hometown, Makindye, Uganda. In 1994 Joanita Senoga, a second grade public school teacher, could no longer abide her school’s practice of expelling children for failure to pay school fees. She started a school that provides education to children who want to learn -- irrespective of their ability to pay.

COPI is a US-based 501c3 nonprofit organization established in 2010 to assist Circle of Peace School to meet the educational needs of its 300 students. COPI is governed by a Board of Directors that meets monthly. Besides raising funds for the school, the organization establishes pen pal programs with schools in the U.S., provides opportunities for Americans to volunteer at the school, and helps the school set up profit-making businesses in order to become self-sufficient.

The Development Director is a member of the Board of Directors with specific responsibility for guiding the fundraising efforts of the organization. The Director leads a Fundraising Team that develops and implements a fundraising strategy that includes a direct mail annual appeal and various fundraisers. The board as a whole is expected to support all fundraising efforts and participate in carrying them out.

Because the organization has no staff, the Development Director must be a person who can work without supervision, carry out responsibilities in a timely manner, and interact well with others. An appreciation for the mission, vision and values of Circle of Peace International and Circle of Peace School is a must. Familiarity with the nonprofit sector would be a plus. We seek a person residing in the Richmond, VA area. A one-year commitment is required

If you fit this bill, we would love to hear from you. Just think, if all children in low-income countries could acquire basic reading skills, 171 million people could be lifted out of poverty. What better way to invest your time and talents!
