Project: VISION (www.projectvisionchicago.org) is a small grassroots nonprofit organization serving youth ages 12-18 in Chicago's Chinatown & Bridgeport neighborhoods. We provide free after school programming primarily to youth from low income, first generation immigrant families. We are seeking tutors for our After School Homework Tutoring Program. Tutors will assist students in grades 9-12 with homework, test preparation, and help students develop academic skills and knowledge. Each tutor will work with 4-5 students during each shift and assist the Program Coordinators with maintaining student records. We are seeking tutors with strong personal academic records and enthusiasm and passion for teaching!
-Tutor students (grades 9-12) in the after school homework tutoring program in various subjects (answer students' questions, explain concepts, check work, assist with test prep, etc.).
-Provide enrichment activities to students.
-Help maintain student progress records.
-At least college sophomore standing
-Must have a strong academic record and be confident with a variety of subjects
-Especially seeking those who are strong in upper level math (i.e. geometry, algebra II, trigonometry, pre-calculus/calculus) and science (biology, chemistry, physics) subjects
-Experience working with youth in 14-18 age group preferred
-Organized, reliable, punctual, self-motivated and team player
-Excellent communication skills
-Shifts are available Mondays-Fridays 3p-7p and Saturdays 10a-1pm. Mon-Fri volunteers must be able to work at least one 3-hour shift weekly; Saturday volunteers must be able to work at least 5 Saturdays per quarter (3-hour shifts).
-Must be able to commit to volunteering for the duration of the academic year (6/16/17)
