Project: VISION (www.projectvisionchicago.org) is a small grassroots nonprofit organization serving youth ages 12-18 in Chicago's Chinatown, Bridgeport, and surrounding neighborhoods. We provide free after school programming primarily to youth from low income, first generation immigrant families. We are seeking tutors for our After School Homework Tutoring Program. Tutors will assist students in grades 6-8 with homework and provide enrichment activities to help students develop academic skills and knowledge. Each tutor will work with 4-5 students during each shift. We are seeking tutors with strong personal academic records and enthusiasm and passion for teaching!
Responsibilities:
-Tutor students (grades 6-8) in the after school homework tutoring program in various subjects (answer students' questions, explain concepts, check work, etc.).
-Provide enrichment activities to students.
Qualifications:
-Must have a strong academic record and be confident with a variety of subjects
-Experience working with youth in 12-14 age group preferred.
-Organized, reliable, punctual, self-motivated and team player
-Excellent communication skills
-Shifts are available Mondays-Fridays 3p-7p and Saturdays 10a-1pm. Mon-Fri volunteers must be able to work at least one 2-hour shift weekly; Saturday volunteers must be able to work at least 5 Saturdays per quarter (3-hour)
-Must be able to commit to volunteering for the duration of the academic year (ending 6/15/18).
