Volunteers are needed to deliver lunch from the Home Delivered Meals program to homebound seniors in McDowell County every Monday through Friday. Drivers use their own vehicles to deliver meals on routes located throughout McDowell.
Each route normally takes 1 to 1 1/2 hours to deliver. Meals are ready to be picked up at the Senior Center starting each day at 10:45 a.m.
Volunteers are encouraged to deliver meals one day a week. Fill-ins are also needed when scheduled volunteers have to miss their route.
McDowell County offers mileage reimbursement to Home Delivered Meals drivers.
Individuals or groups interested in assisting with home delivered meals can call the McDowell Senior Center at 659-0826 or the A.C. Bud Hogan Community Center at 668-4867. Interested candidates can also email volctr@mcdowellgov.com for more information.

Description
What we do for individuals:
Individuals interested in volunteering can call the volunteer center at 659-0826 or stop by the office between 12:30 - 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, to fill out a simple volunteer form. After completing the form, volunteers may be matched on the spot to a position, or an application may be held until their skills can be matched to an organization. Once volunteers are matched to a position, they will be contacted by the center and given futher instructions on how they can help.
What we do for community groups and nonprofits:
The Volunteer center reaches out to local organizations and nonprofits to see what their volunteer needs are. Once needs are established, we post said needs on our website and social media. As well as make printed materials that are distributed throughout the community. Any volunteer responses that are received are then forwarded on to the agency in need.
