FRIENDS OF STARK PARKS (FSP)

BOARD TRUSTEE JOB DESCRIPTION

JOBTITLE: Board of Trustees Member

OVERVIEW: Together with the other Trustees, take responsibility for ensuring fiscally sound and effective programs and operations by providing leadership, advice, direction, and support to the staff and volunteers of the Stark County Park District.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support the mission and purpose of the FSP
  2. Select the officers of the Board
  3. Support the Executive Committee and assess their performance
  4. Ensure effective organizational planning
  5. Ensure adequate resources to carry out the organization’s mission
  6. Manage resources effectively
  7. Determine, monitor, and strengthen programs and services of FSP
  8. Enhance the public image of Stark Parks
  9. Ensure the legal and ethical integrity of the organization and maintain accountability
  10. Assess Board performance and effectiveness

DUTIES:

  1. Prepare for each Board meeting by reading material distributed prior to the meeting and gathering whatever information may be required or requested
  2. Attend regular and special Board meetings and participate in the proceedings
  3. Serve on at least one committee and actively participate in committee meetings
  4. Maintain knowledge of current programs and staff of Stark Parks
  5. Assist in maintaining and growing the membership of FSP
  6. Serve as an advocate of Stark Parks to the public and other groups
  7. Be accessible, at least by phone, to staff and other Board members as needed
  8. Contribute at least four hours per month to the park district
  9. Fulfill commitments within agreed deadlines
  10. Act in loyalty to FSP and its mission
  11. Immediately disclose any conflict of interest that you may have and excuse yourself from related decisions
  12. Hold in confidence information given to the Board as appropriate
  13. Take initiative and provide leadership
  14. Identify potential candidates for the Board and its committees
  15. Support Friends of Stark Parks financially through membership (at least at the basic membership level).
