A Free Bird is a 501(C)(3)non-profit organization based in New York City. Our focus is to provide children, ages 4-18 who are patients or survivors of juvenile cancer, the opportunity to explore their artistic passions and give them the strength to fight their disease. We believe that artistic expression is critical for healing! A Free Bird supports children affected by cancer in their exploration of art, music, acting, poetry, writing, singing and any other artistic passion they may have.

We are seeking a highly motivated, passionate and enthusiastic individual who will join our HR Team to help bring onboard amazing Art Tutors for our Fight Free Program!

Our Fight FREE program provides children, ages 6-18, who are currently fighting cancer, with art tutors to give these young people the strength and power necessary to help them fight their illness. A Free Bird collaborates with university art students and cultural institutions to provide children with both an outlet for their creative energies and hope for their futures! We set up each child with a talented, caring tutor for one-on-one lessons, so that they can continue with their favorite art form even while undergoing treatment. These lessons occur weekly, or every two or three weeks, depending on the needs and desires of the child. A Free Bird provides the necessary tools and allows instructors to come directly to the hospital or a child’s place of residence.

Overall Responsibilities:

Provides direct support to the Programs Department in recruiting Volunteer Tutors for the Fight Free Program. The individual will be recruiting and onboarding volunteer tutors working closely with the Programs Director and HR Director. The individual will have the ability to work independently and within a team environment; ability to efficiently organize materials and information, ability to easily adjust to changing conditions, maintain effective working relationships with employees, and any other individuals.

Responsibilities:

- Screen, schedule and conduct interviews for volunteer tutors
-Creating and Posting Tutor Job Descriptions
-Conduct orientation for new volunteer tutors
-Creating charts, spreadsheets, documents within google drive and Microsoft office.
-Assisting with Calendar appointments.
-Organizing materials for the information that is within emails, google drive, etc.
-Scanning/Faxing information through phone or ipad.
-Effective email communication between volunteers/interns and outside representatives
-Creating files on the computer, potentially sharing material with other volunteers/interns
-Must support and maintain mission goal and statement of organization

Competencies:

-Excellent verbal/written Communication
-Ability to Research information on the internet
-Working towards a degree in Human Resources
-Understanding Google Drive
-Understanding Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc
-Highly organized
