THIS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY IS LOCATED AT OUR COLLECTIONS RESOURCE CENTER (CRC) AT FORT WAYNE ON JEFFERSON AVENUE IN DETROIT.

PURPOSE:

Assist the Society’s Registrar by capturing digital photographs of historical objects and clothing in our inventory. Volunteer will primarily be responsible for creating "documentary photography", providing a fairly complete picture of an item by photographing all views with the overall goal of increasing the Society’s online collection.

DUTIES:

-Photograph newly-accessioned objects as well as items that have not been previously photographed during inventory work;

-Update online collection for the purposes of expanding our online exhibit database;

-Update PastPerfect records accordingly;

-Photograph/upload a variety of backlogged items;

-Assist with other digital projects, as needed.

SCHEDULING:

We ask that candidates are willing to commit to at least 3-6 months of service; and have the ability to provide a minimum of one 3-hour shift per week.

There will be a two week trial period for this volunteer position. DHS reserves the right to determine appropriate placement at all times.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

-Intermediate experience operating digital camera equipment;

-Experience managing various computer/digital applications;

-Maintain attention span for performing repetitive tasks;

-Maintain the ability to work individually and as part a team environment.

TRAINING & SUPPORT:

Volunteers will receive on-the-job training in day-to-day operations of our Registrar office.
