ORGANIZATION: THREE RIVERS COMMUNITY ACTION INC - Hiawathaland Transit

Hiawathaland Transit is administered by Three Rivers Community Action, a private non-profit corporation that works with community partners to address basic human needs of people in our service area; thereby improving the quality of life of the individual, family, and community.

The community driver program is intended to provide individuals with accessible transportation that is suited to meet their specific needs. One-way, round-trip, and multi-stop rides are usually available; reservations are required.

Community drivers are those who volunteer to spend their personal time using their own personal vehicles to transport residents of Rice, Wabasha & Goodhue Counties who are unable to utilize public transportation services.

Community Drivers should be passionate about helping others and have a strong desire to serve those is need. Additionally, it is essential for Community Drivers to be responsible, energetic, and loyal to all individuals affiliated with the Community Driver Program.

Drivers will transport individuals to and from such destinations as medical appointments, shopping, entertainment, supportive services, volunteer work and/or recreational activities.

As a driver you will be reimbursed for mileage at the current IRS rate; you can set your own schedule, drive as little or as much as wanted, and select preferred areas of travel - you can even bring a friend or family member along! You will obtain training opportunities including Defensive Driving, Passenger Assistance, Abuse Preventions, and First Aid and CPR Training. Being a Community Driver may also earn you discounted insurance rates through your insurance provider.

Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age, have a current and valid driver’s license and proper vehicle insurance. They must also pass criminal background, driving record and local reference checks. Interested parties can call 866-623-7505 to request that an application be sent to them.

Mission Statement

Three Rivers Community Action, Inc., incorporated in 1966, is a nonprofit human service organization with a mission to work with community partners to address basic human needs of people in our service area, thereby improving the quality of life of the individual, family and community

Description

Three Rivers Community Action is a nonprofit human service organization created by local citizens and incorporated in 1966. Three Rivers Community Action serves primarily low-income families. However, it also serves the community at large by creating a healthier environment for all citizens regardless of economic status. The agency serves people in a variety of ways: homeownership, keeping them warm and sheltered, employing them, healing them, educating them, transporting them, feeding them and involving them.

In the professional community of human services, Three Rivers Community Action plays an important role. Three Rivers advocates for our clients at the local, state and federal levels. The agency has developed a comprehensive networking system with various human service agencies in order to best serve our clients. These collaborative relationships allow agencies to maximize their resources to serve families and communities. Three Rivers is an agent of change within the community, paving the way for understanding and acceptance.

Our broadest impact is on the people we serve. We fulfill dreams of homeownership for single parent, handicapped and diverse families. We keep seniors in their homes with Home Delivered Meals, public transportation and energy assistance. Through the Head Start program, we provide school readiness for children and a variety of services for the entire family. We strive to serve people better wherever they are in life, from homelessness to homeownership, and everywhere in between.
