Ocean Discovery Institute is an award winning science education organization that works with San Diego’s most underserved elementary, middle, and high school students to promote science and environmental understanding and action.
Ocean Science Explorers (OSE) is a school and field-based educational initiative that provides early and continued exposure to ocean science. Students and teachers participate in Ocean Science Explorers from the third through sixth grades.
Position Overview:
- Assist with hands-on science lessons in City Heights classrooms
- Lead outdoor field experiences in Mission Bay
Position Commitment:
- One day a week (approx. 5 hours) from Sept 19 - Dec 9
- except for school holidays and breaks
- option to continue volunteering in Jan. 2017
- Attend two mandatory trainings:
- Saturday, September 17 th, 9:00am - 1:30pm
- Saturday, October 1 st, 9:00am - 1:30pm

Description
The programs of Ocean Discovery Institute offer intensive, hands-on learning opportunities for disadvantaged children and youth. Programs are offered throughout the year. The programs employ three basic strategies: classroom and field-based programming in partnership with Title 1 schools, intensive after-school and summer programs, community-based habitat restoration events.
