YoOceans! needs someone that can move and manage our Wordpress site and perhaps the same person can manage the social media outreach.
Move the website to another hosting provider to reduce costs and have a test site plus the production site.
We have several+ API integrations running, we have Woocommerce. You have to edit the php theme files occasionally), we have a lot of stuff custom coded to make the site work. The other sticky issue is that our theme files both Wordpress and Woocommerce are outdated and the developer is no longer providing theme updates so we need to upgrade both themes too.
Right now this website is sitting on a server at Inmotionhosting but need more server space. We recently did a bunch of server admin and upgraded the php to the most recent version and upgraded Apache as well. Basically our site is a blog site, we have a store that has API integration to a t-shirt vendor who prints on demand t-shirts when people order the order is sent directly to the t-shirt vendor, we also sell art tiles through the store, and then we have a plugin running that allows people to download our lesson plans and collect data on those people which is fed to mailchimp via an API. We have a Twitter API, an Instagram API and it goes on and on. Really our site has turned into a "portal" and is not a straight forward Wordpress site anymore. We have visual composer running too. We don't have any backup running on the site which needs to be implemented. We were using a backup API too which was backing up the site to the server but we ran out of disc space so we had to disable it. Questions? Let us know and thank you!More opportunities with YoOceans! Improving the lives of marine mammals in captivity or the wild through education and policy development.
Description
YoOceans! is focused on improving the welfare of marine mammals in the wild and in captivity. We do that through education. We provide educational materials and guest speakers to classrooms. There is a global discussion occurring in the media about the moral and ethical issues surrounding marine mammals in captivity as well as the many issues that surround wild populations of marine mammals (pollution, lack of food, ship traffic, climate change, capture for display industry). We have also seen an increase in proposed legislation here in the United States that is focuon banning certain marine mammals in captivity. Several educators have told us that our material is relevant, exciting and engaging. Our educational materials can be implemented into many different subject areas, such as Language Arts, Science and Global History. Which puts us in a position to grow our organization well beyond our current size.
Because the topic of marine mammal welfare is becoming more widely discussed in the media and it is now on the radar screen of legislators, we feel that there is opportunity here to engage students in a topic that is dynamic and engaging.
In the last calendar year we have brought our programs to approximately 700 children. Teachers are saying that we are "breaking open the box of education" and have called our programs "genius".
