About

Title: Volunteer Coordinator

Reports to: Executive Director, Development Director


Job Description: The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for obtaining, training, and oversight of all volunteers not reporting directly to upper management positions. They may coordinate and schedule volunteers on an ongoing basis or organize volunteers for single events.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, promote, and maintain a wide range of volunteer opportunities within the organization

    • Develop volunteer position descriptions

    • Survey staff regularly to assess needs for volunteer assistance

    • Maintain regular contact with Events Coordinator to staff events

  • Actively recruit, interview and place applicants for volunteer work, including:

    • Contacting established volunteers

    • Seek new help using various marketing tools, including volunteer databases, e-mail letters, and outreach events.

    • Screening (interviews, required background checks, etc.) and matching volunteers to organizational needs and opportunities

    • Match interested volunteers with opportunities that suit their skill set and serves the organization.

    • Create schedules for volunteer placement

  • Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers

    • Offer orientation to the organization

    • Lead on-the-job training or conduct informational sessions prior to volunteer events.

    • Create volunteer program materials (policies and procedures, applications, volunteer agreements, orientation handbooks, etc)

    • Participate in all events staffed by volunteers to offer supervision and immediate assistance

    • Confer with volunteers to resolve grievances and promote cooperation and interest

  • Create and distribute various communications and publications

    • Keep existing volunteers informed via newsletters or other communications.

    • Ensure volunteer recognition

  • Database management and tracking of volunteer statistics

    • Evaluate volunteer programs to ensure effectiveness


Other assigned duties:

  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings
