Teaching English to Village Children
Bried is a volunteer from Ireland. She enjoyed teaching the children of La Libertad for six weeks.

We need individuals who are interested in teaching English as a second language. Education opportunities may include adults and/or children in small group or a tutorial setting. We provide books and some English teaching materials. We use the Hooked on English phonics program, Hooked on Phonics, games, songs, activites, videos, recordings, and some basic computer programs as well.

Mission Statement

The mission of Amazon Pueblo is to enrich the quality of life of indigenous peoples of the Colombia Amazon by supporting the development of sustainable business, through the efforts of volunteerism.

Description

Our vision for the future is for all indigenous peoples of the Amazon region to prosper through sustainable business.

We adhere to the values of transparency, adaptability, perseverance, respect, and service to others in the pursuit of our mission and vision.

The Amazon Pueblo project is a nonprofit business based in Thomaston, Maine. We offer services to indigenous communities in the Colombian Amazon. The form of these services involves organizing volunteers to help the communities develop sustainable business. This help may come in the form of advice, assistance in connecting with other organizations that provide money, services, education, health services, or infrastructure improvements. We also help the villagers to make connections to other businesses to engage in trade.

Our programing consists of four major areas, all designed to support our mission of developing sustainable business. This business development is our solution to the needs faced by the people. Rather than raising money to give needed gifts to each community, instead we help the community to develop self-sufficiency through business.

The four areas of our programing are:

  1. Volunteer coordination
  2. Direct business development
  3. Business and NGO partnership development
  4. Health and sanitation improvement
