Who we are: Opportunity Junction
Our mission: To fight poverty by helping low-income Contra Costa residents gain the skills and confidence to get and keep jobs that support themselves and their families.
We are in need of a Typing Supervisor for our Typing Class every Wednesday from 7:30-9:00pm.
Our Antioch office is open to the community in the evenings for the Technology Center so people can use the computers, and attend computer classes at no cost to them. On Wednesdays we have the Typing Class where students practice their typing - working to increase their words-per-minute and/or accuracy. We need a volunteer supervisor to oversee the class and to help students as need. Some responsibilities include helping students log into the computer, and navigate through the different typing program or activities. With these skills, individuals can be more competitive in the workforce. Make a difference in our community by assisting those who WANT to learn!

Description
The Job Training and Placement Program works with 45 participants per year to intensively train and provide job experience in computer-related occupations. Participants receive training on computer programs like Excel and Word, are instructed on business English and Math concepts, and participate in life skills classes to prepare them for re-entering the workforce. They also have access to case management and counseling services.
Our evening program, the Technology Center, provides free evening adult education classes and assistance in computer basics and English as a Second Language. Volunteers act as teachers, tutors, and mentors. Currently, classes focus on basics, but we hope to expand to intermediate levels in the future. We also provide drop-in computer access and individual tutoring as tutors are available. Classes are offered Monday-Thursday 6-9 p.m. at our location. Students can come at any time to register. Students may come on any evening they choose.
Our office in Bay Point offers career development services. Staff help individuals with resumes, job search, and case management. Free evening classes are also offered at Bay Point, covering basic computer skills and English as a Second Language. Volunteers teach these classes, as well as those in Antioch.
Please contact us only if you are interested in working with us for six weeks or more.
