THRIFT SHOP CONTRIBUTOR

Position Overview
The Thrift Shop (TS) Contributor is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in the NMCRS Thrift Shop. The volunteer is appointed by the Chair of Volunteers (COV), in consultation with the Director, and serves under the supervision of the TS Shift Coordinator and in close cooperation with the TS Lead.
Core Responsibilities
- Adhere to all NMCRS TS policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Comply with established pricing structure and NMCRS internal control procedures
- Collect, sort, and display donated items
- Arrange items in the sales area
- Designate those items not suitable for sale or recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and remove from the TS
- Provide daily operational TS support

- Ability to lift small containers weighing less than 20 pounds
- Ability to maintain a nonjudgmental demeanor, objectivity, and confidentiality
- Ability to listen and communicate
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and prioritize time-sensitive situations
- Ability to present a professional, friendly, and objective appearance
- Ability to identify with the mission and serve as a NMCRS Ambassador

- Remain current on programs, policies, and procedures and attend required training

Mission Statement
The mission of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is to provide, in partnership with the Navy and Marine Corps, financial, educational, and other assistance to members of the Naval Services of the United States, eligible family members, and survivors when in need; and to receive and manage funds to administer these programs.
Description
Founded in 1904, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is a private non-profit charitable organization. It is sponsored by th e Department of the Navy and operates nearly 250 offices ashore and afloat at Navy and Marine Corps bases throughout the world. The Society was incorporated in the District of Columbia and has its headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. It is managed by a Board of Directors whose members are active duty or retired members of the Naval Services, or spouses of active duty or retired members of the Naval Services.
