HOURS:
2-4 hours per week

OVERVIEW:

The volunteer co-facilitator works with the Outlet Program Coordinator to co-facilitate an LGBTQ+ youth group in Redwood City or Mountain View. These are peer social/support groups, not clinical/therapeutic groups that meet on a weekly basis. We are looking for LGBTQ+ adults (18+) who will model friendship, resiliency, positive coping skills, healthy relationships, and an interest in all things queer. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Complete facilitator training with Outlet staff

Co-facilitate one group session a week with another volunteer or staff person.

Allow time for facilitator check-ins after each group.

Assist with distribution and management of intake forms and evaluations.

Assist with setup of rooms, including coordinating food/snacks, seating, etc.

OUTLET GROUPS:

Monday:

- Monday Night Group, ages 10-18, weekly from 6:00-7:30pm in Mountain View

Tuesday:

- Drop-in Hours, ages 10-25, weekly from 4:00pm-7:00pm in Redwood City

[Hours are flexible between 4:00pm-7:00pm]

- Grown Folks Group, ages 18-25, 1st and 3rd Tuesdays from 6:00pm-7:30pm in Mountain View

Wednesday:

- Trans-Femme Group, ages 14-25, weekly from 6:00pm-7:30pm in Mountain View

Thursday:

- Trans Group, ages 10-18, weekly from 6:00pm-7:30pm in Redwood City

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must identify with and reflect the community being served. Youth group facilitation experience is a plus. Excellent communication and listening skills. Highly responsible and dependable. Ability to listen and guide discussions with teens. Ability to be flexible and integrate into the Outlet youth group culture. Willing to complete background check and mandated reporter training. Must be 18+. Transgender people and people of color highly encouraged to apply.

Description

Founded in 1975, ACS currently implements four core programs in Santa Clara and San Mateo County communities:

  • Community Counseling Program - Outpatient mental health assessment, treatment and education for teens and their families in the general community and at local Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula
  • Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment Program - A harm reduction outpatient treatment program providing treatment to teens and families struggling with drug and/or alcohol abuse, as well as community prevention education
  • Outlet - A program serving Bay Area Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTQ+) teens, families, and supportive allies with support group counseling, leadership training, and education in both Spanish and English.
  • On-Campus Counseling Program - Bilingual on-site individual and family counseling, crisis intervention, mental health education, and support at no cost to students/families attending local middle and high schools
