Help Communities In Schools of Central Texas (CIS) empower students to stay in school and achieve in life! CIS is looking for dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to join the SmartKids Afterschool Volunteer Team.
SmartKids at Santa Rita is a fun, enriching, and meaningful afterschool program for Communities In Schools students living on public housing sites. SmartKids programming takes place Mondays - Thursdays from 3 - 5 on four different public housing communities in Austin. Professional staff lead programming for elementary school students, assist with homework and lead creative activities. SmartKids is a lively group environment, and volunteers assist staff with programming, providing the ability to focus individual attention for each student in attendance.
Volunteers are needed from around 2:45-4:30pm M-Th. Most volunteers commit to volunteering 1-2x a week, and we ask for a commitment of at least one school semester to ensure consistency for students. If interested, a CIS staff person would work with you to place find a location and time that would work for both you and SmartKids staff.
Bilingual (Spanish & English) speaking volunteers are extremely helpful, but this is not a requirement.

Description
Communities In Schools of Central Texas has programming in 100 elementary, middle, and high school campuses across Central Texas, providing support services to students and families. Volunteer opportunities range from one-time events to weekly commitments and can include working directly with students or supporting CIS behind the scenes. Campus-based volunteers are matched to meet weekly with a student during the school year, beginning in the fall and continuing until the end of the school year.
