Job Description

The Volunteer Services Intern will assist the JERS Manager of Volunteers with running the volunteer program day-to-day and sustaining quality volunteer engagement. The intern will work 10-15 hours per week under the supervision of the JERS Manager of Volunteers. Hours are available M-F from 9AM-4PM, adjustable according to school calendar and availability.

Duties include

  • Assisting with daily program needs and help organize/run volunteer events

  • Responding to initial volunteer inquiries through email, phone, and mail

  • Creating a weekly newsletter of volunteer opportunities that will be sent to all current volunteers

  • Planning for increased efficiency and sustainability of the program

  • Inputting new volunteer data into the database

  • Posting, recruiting, and interviewing interns for the following semester

  • Additional projects are available (eg. assisting in the ESL classroom, working with the JERS Women's Group, etc.) according to the intern's professional interests and experience -- need not be related to Volunteer Management

  • Other assistance as needed

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications and expectations:

  • Current graduate or undergraduate student

  • Professionalism, dependability, honesty, and punctuality

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Adaptability to a rapidly changing environment

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A major in business, anthropology, or a related field

  • An interest in the daily functioning of non-profit organizations

  • An interest in Buffalo's refugee population

  • An ability to contribute confidently when called upon for problem-solving

  • Prior experience with Microsoft Office and Google applications

This is an unpaid internship. A portion of the intern's time will be dedicated to their personal educational development including a thorough training in Journey's End and its mission. Copy machine, wifi, and other tools are available. Free parking.
