The Discovery Room at Maymont's Nature Center is one of our most popular areas for guests to visit! However, a volunteer must be present to supervise this room in order for us to open this space up to the public. We are in search of volunteers ages 15+ who are comfortable speaking to the public, can interact with guests pleasantly, are responsible and reliable, and are interested in education. Volunteers will be responsible for opening and closing the room and supervising visitors in the room. Volunteers may also receive additional training to lead activities and demonstrations if they are interested.

Description
Maymont was the 100-acre Victorian country estate of Major James H. and Sallie May Dooley. The Dooleys completed their opulent mansion in 1893 and spent the next three decades creating the gardens, landscapes and outbuildings you see here today. Upon Mrs. Dooley's death in 1925, Maymont was bequeathed to the City of Richmond . Attractions for visitors added over the years include the Nature Center, Native Virginia Wildlife Exhibits, Children's Farm and Carriage Collection. Since 1975, Maymont has been maintained and operated by the private non-profit Maymont Foundation.
