ORGANIZATION: Detroit Historical Society

PURPOSE:

Contribute ongoing clerical assistance to the Society’s Development team by providing day-to-day administrative support including, but not limited to, filing maintenance, photocopying/scanning and assisting department staff as needed.

DUTIES:

- Be prepared to contribute to the efficient operation of behind-the-scenes administrative duties;

-Maintaining department filing system (filing a large accumulation of paperwork);

-Prepare files to be scanned or shredded;

-Assist with a variety of administrative tasks, as needed;

-Prepare bulk mailings;

-Be prepared to work on a variety of tasks as most duties will be project orientated.

SCHEDULING:

We ask that candidates are willing to commit to at least 6 months of service; and have the ability to provide a minimum of two 3-hour shifts per week (or one 6-hour shift per week).

There will be a two week trial period for this volunteer position. DHS reserves the right to determine appropriate placement at all times.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

-Minimum of one year experience providing clerical support in an office setting;

-Experience in operating office equipment i.e. copier, scanner, shredder, etc.;

-Experience in Microsoft Office;

-Maintain discretion at all times;

-Maintain attention span for performing repetitive tasks;

-Maintain the ability to work as a team in a fast-paced environment.

TRAINING & SUPPORT:

Volunteers will receive on-the-job training in day-to-day administrative functions.
