As a ride along volunteer with Chicken Soup Brigade's Hunger Response Vehicle, you get the best of both worlds-client interaction and food distribution. To start off the day, volunteers meet our staff driver at our food production center in Georgetown and help load the truck. From there you're on your way to an apartment building where you help our staff driver set up a grocery assembly area in the building's lobby or community room. With order sheets in tow, you take client’s grocery orders and carefully assemble the grocery bags. You then hand the grocery bags directly to the clients who can come to the assembly area and facilitate delivery to the doors of those who cannot. Voila...easy! Did we mention you don’t even need a car?
Shift: Mondays from 9:00am-12pm or 1-4pm; 3 month commitment
Requirements:
- Ability to lift 30 pounds.
- Friendly demeanor.
- Quick on your toes.
- Ages 16+ are welcome.
- No car needed (our staff drive...YAYA!)
About the Hunger Response Vehicle (HRV)
The HRV transports CSB’s healthy food directly to clients’ homes AND gives them the opportunity to choose part of their own groceries. By providing healthy foods to choose from, we are making healthy eating more doable for our clients.
A little about Lifelong's food program, Chicken Soup Brigade
Lifelong’s food program, Chicken Soup Brigade, improves the nutritional health of individuals living with chronic conditions and hunger. We recognize the importance of nutrition to overall health. It has the power to reduce symptoms of many illnesses. It can minimize medication side effects. And it can provide comfort when it is needed most.
Chicken Soup’s clients have specific health challenges, such as HIV, diabetes, kidney disease, cancers, or disabling arthritis. Most are living below the Federal Poverty Level, and all require assistance in managing their nutritional health. Chicken Soup offers a comprehensive food and nutrition program designed not only feed people but to nourish them.

Description
LIFELONG HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN ORGANIZATION THAT STANDS UP FOR COMMUNITIES FACING ILLNESS AND INJUSTICE.
Everyone deserves the chance to live their healthiest life, but that vision is out of reach for far too many people. For nearly 40 years, Lifelong has fought for marginalized communities with relentless compassion-because no one should have to battle stigma, judgment, or the devastating effects of illness alone. Our wraparound care model supports the whole person by breaking down barriers and improving access to nutritious food, stable housing, and vital health resources for people living with diabetes, HIV, kidney disease, and other life-challenging illnesses. Our community support network fills the gaps in broken systems and ensures that everyone has an equitable opportunity to thrive.
