Mission Statement

The Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS vision is to eliminate infection and improve quality of life for communities touched by HIV/AIDS. Our Mission is to serve individuals touched by HIV/AIDS through prevention, education, client-centered services and coordinated care in collaboration with community partners.

Description

The Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS is a 501(c3) non-profit organization working sound public health and evidence-based programing to provide HIV testing, outpatient medical care and wellness, behavioral health counseling, case management, nutrition and others social services to individuals living with or at high risk of exposure to HIV in Arizona and the greater Southwest.

SWHIV serves ~30,000 annually through its programs and services. With new strategic goals launching soon and many new initiatives broadening the mission to include social justice and integrated LGBTQ+ services on the horizon, SWHIV needs and welcomes the enthusiastic participation of its members on the Board of Directors.

Most of the people that SWHIV serves are based in the LGBTQ+ community and members of vulnerable populations: they are low income individuals who are socially and/or economically marginalized and have difficulty finding culturally sensitive medical care that meets their needs.

The Center’s vision is to eliminate infection and improve quality of life for communities touched by HIV/AIDS. To help fulfill this vision, SWHIV has signed and is committed to the United Nations’ UNAIDS 90-90-90 initiative with the goal of achieving the following targets by 2020:

-90% of people living with HIV diagnosed;

-90% of diagnosed people on antiretroviral treatment; and

-90% of people in treatment with fully suppressed viral load.
