Help Communities In Schools of Central Texas (CIS) empower students to stay in school and achieve in life! CIS is looking for dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to serve as Reading Buddies for elementary students in Austin and the surrounding area during the 2016-2017 school year.
Reading Buddies provide a fun, consistent, and engaging volunteer role model for students. The purpose is to help students build confidence in literacy abilities and gain excitement about reading. For at least one academic semester, you would meet with a student for 45 minutes to an hour once a week on their school campus. A CIS staff member would work with you to schedule a regular time and day of the week for you to volunteer.
Bilingual (Spanish & English) speaking volunteers are extremely helpful, but this is not a requirement.
