Family Engagement

Individual volunteers or small groups may volunteer at the RAR warehouse in Glen Burnie, MD to help prepare shipments to our nationwide network of affiliates. These events can be designed for your availability

Volunteers may sticker books, prepare book bags, assemble educator manuals, and prepare materials for children and families across the country.

Mission Statement

RAR helps children and families aged 0-8 develop, practice and maintain home-based literacy routines critical for school success.

Description

Through a network of more than 2,700 community partners (school systems, libraries, community agencies and others) across 34 states, in 2015 alone we reached nearly 130,000 children and families.

Since our inception in 1999, we have helped more than 1.25 million families build and maintain reading routines in their homes, with special attention to those at highest-risk for educational failure.

Develop- Raising A Reader helps parents develop the habit of sharing books through RAR’s train the trainer model.

Practice-To practice the habit of sharing books, each week children bring home a bright red book bags filled with award-winning books.

Maintain- Raising A Reader connects families to libraries to maintain the habit of borrowing and sharing books.
