Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, widely recognized as one of New York's premier human services providers, is a 122-year-old settlement house that provides an extensive array of effective and integrated services which significantly improve the lives of 20,000 people in need each year, ages 3 to 103 on the East Side of Manhattan. Our English as a Second Language program provides high quality, interactive instruction to a diverse student body. We seek to increase students' language skills, confidence in speaking and comprehension of English. Volunteers are needed to teach a beginner level ESOL class to adult learners on Mondays, 9:30am-12:00pm from September 26 - December 5 at 331 East 70th Street. Training anf supervision are provided but volunteers will be responsible for preparing weekly lesson plans for their classes and writing brief summaries of student progress.

Description

Lenox Hill Neighborhood House was founded in 1894 by the Alumnae Association of Normal College (now known as Hunter College of the City University of New York) as a free kindergarten for the children of indigent immigrants. Since then, we have remained at the forefront of community advocacy and social and educational change.
