Join our tutor training workshop in Maplewood, NJ and help an adult learn to read and write English. You can begin helping an adult by the end of the month and earn our certificate as a trained tutor of English for Speakers of Other Languages and Basic Literacy after only 18 hours of tutoring. We also provide monthly professional development workshops for tutors.

Our 18-hour training course takes place at the Hilton Branch of Maplewood Memorial Library, 1688 Springfield Avenue, Maplewood, NJ 07040, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:00-4:00 pm, October 17, 22, 24, 29, 31, & Nov. 5, 2018.

In Essex County, 28-percent of all adults are considered functionally illiterate: They can't read to their children, help with homework, or write a note to, or read a note from, a child's teacher. At Literacy Volunteers of America, we teach basic literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to adults. Why not share your gift of literacy?
